1/2 Sick, 1/2 Ick

OK, first and foremost, this cat has talent. "We Cry Blood," "Sunshine," and "Joanna" are honest, true-to-Life tracks that can't help but nod a head or two. "Preacher Man" bounces around happily, and Japhia is oh-so-well equipped to jump along with it, his mellow voice and deep, urban spit complimenting the melodic bed. And then, after that, the disc dies. "Move" gets annoying. "Fire" is less than memorable (and Rob Hodge is such a strong MC, what happened here?). "Hurry" seems hastily mashed -- a Jamaican beat and a straight-ahead flow. Overall, the disc has wonderful high points, but the oopsy-daisey lows make it a hard reccomendation. Buy it by the track. C'mon, Japhia, keep it underground...don't go commercial. Beatmart has a way of doing that, after all. Rob Hodge and Soul P are two more examples. Cop the early work, buy the B-Mart stuff with reservations.

Not really feelin it...

I was real excited to pick up this album because his previous works had been AMAZING! After listening to this one, I felt a little dissapointed. Many may agree or dissagree, but in my opinion, it seems like Japhia altered his cutting edge and hardcore style into something mediocore and soft. I did like the track "Hurry" with Petti. But overall, I just was not feelin this CD compared to his previous works. I hope that if and when Japhia returns with another album release, his unique hardcore style comes back as well.

OK, But Lecrae Is Better

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. My friend showed me the song Preacher Man and I bought the song. It was ok, but I didn't think it had much of a meaning. I mean "my dad took me to church and I ain't really wanna go and then he say you wanna go" didn't really mean much to me because I didn't really get what it said. I am very happy he wants to serve Jesus Christ with his music but honestly I think he needs to work on his lyrics and make sure they make sense. If you want some REALLY want some good Christian rap check out artists like Lecrae, Grits or Tobymac.
