FANTASTIC
This album is truly Realtime at their best. The balance and sound mixing perfectly portrays the classic barbershop sound, while lively and original arrangements make for an exciting and engaging listen. This album far improves on their other album, the sound of which often comes off as grating, the opposite of Four Brothers. Furthermore, I applaud Realtime's choices of song in this album, with a good mix of traditional barbershop and represents good covers a a jazzy repertroire. I highly and avidly recommend this album. Spectacular!
it's Realtime, but it's not their best
I listened through their other cd before I bought this one, and to be honest, it's a big step down. I'm not referring to production quality as much as arrangement choices, although both are less than spectacular. To be honest, I get bored listening to half of them. I find myself attempting to endure, not to enjoy. For example, they have Come Fly With Me on their other cd; it's a slightly different arrangement and a live performance, but a much better and richer performance. I love Realtime and I'm a huge fan, but I would recommend their other cd first.
Solid
If for no other reason than song selection, I rated this higher than their second offering. The barbershop stuff on the Ain't That a Kick is maybe tighter, but their overall mix of repertoire I like better on this album. Anthem is a great album-ender and the jazz stuff is fun :) Mark Metzger's interp of Loch Lomond is... wow!
