Album Review
One of the few live albums that really conveys the flavor of the group without sacrificing performance quality. The Four Tops' stage shows have always been among the most participatory and enjoyable of any R&B or soul group, and that was clearly the case on this release.

Great Live Album
I had this album when I was about 14 years old back in the 60's. But I forget how incredible some of the Motown artists were live. I was lucky enough to have seen most of them in their prime back then. This Four Tops Live album is able to convey the incredible excitment of Motown back in the day. Levi passed away this year but his incredible voice lives on. It's also fun that the Supremes, Marvin Gaye and the Everly Brothers join the Tops for I can't help myself. Having this album again makes me very happy. Thank you i-tunes.
A Motown Moment Captured
Often overlooked on the critics "Best Live Album" lists because of it's short availability as a CD, this snapshot of Levi Stubbs and the Four Tops on a Motown Monday at the Roostertail in Detroit is nothing less than terrific. The band cooks, the crowd eagerly participates, and Levi works the room like a store front preacher. Despite being less than a technically perfect recording (remember this is Motown in 1964), the set is captured and edited as well as can be expected. With their lounge roots remembered in such tunes as "Climb Every Mountain" and "I Left My Heart in San Francisco", the groups also does versions of "Baby I Need Your Loving'" and "Ask the Lonely" that are revelatory. Even the sing-a-long mess that is "I Can't Help Myself" with the Everly Brothers and Diana Ross is great fun, and the true spirit of a Four Tops nightclub set is captured. Though the album was overshadowed in it's day by James Brown's "Live at the Apollo" (1963) and B.B. King's "Live at the Regal" (1965), this is one of the great live albums of it's era. If you are a Four Tops or Motown fan, you must own this set.
