Complex, Heavy, Rewarding, Fragile
The follow-up to "Kaleidoscope" shows GoldRoom getting heavier and more abstract. Gone are the spare instrumental arrangements of acoustic instruments and subtle drumming. "So Vain" starts the album off with a more upbeat, tongue-in-cheek play on an old song. Then things get a little more abstract as more traditional song arrangements give way to slightly meandering compositions that don't quite follow normal song structures. Overall, production is much more dense and challenging.
