Album Review

Brian Tyler's score for the Sci-Fi channel's miniseries Children of Dune has an appropriately grandiose, menacing feel befitting an epic science-fiction saga. The mostly orchestral score mixes sweeping, John Williams-esque pieces like the main title and "Summon the Worms" with softer moments such as "Arrival of Lady Jessica" and Middle Eastern-inspired tracks like "Revolution" and "Inama Nushif." It's a well-balanced collection of music, moving from the stately "Dune Messiah" to the brooding "Leto Atreides II" to tense, treacherous pieces like "Jihad" and "Rya Wolves" while still remaining cohesive, and "My Skin Is Not My Own," "Horizon," and "The Golden Path" evoke the desert sandscapes of the miniseries, but for all its competency, the soundtrack rarely sounds distinctive. Fans of the miniseries may enjoy Children of Dune as a musical souvenir, but too much of the score sounds too generic to be appealing outside of that context.

Best soundtrack ever

This is one of the most incredible soundtracks ever written for any movie, ever. Brian Tyler is a relatively unknown composer, but his works are comparable to greats such as John Williams. This outstanding soundtrack has a blending of mostly Middle Eastern and classical music, all composed and conducted by Brian Tyler. He also played all percussion and ethnic instruments in it! An incredibley talented person... Some stand-out songs include Summon the Worms, Trap the Worm, My Skin is Not My Own, and The Jihad. It's hard to believe he composed all this in two month's time. I would recommend buying the whole album; it never gets old.

good but.......

the soundtrack is good but i dont want to buy the whole thing!!!!! i want 2 songs and i have to buy the album!! not happening. Itunes do something?!

Brilliant by any standards

With all due respect to Graeme Revell (who has done some fine work in his time), the first Sci-Fi Channel mini-series DUNE featured music that was immediately forgettable. Not so this time around. Brian Tyler hits all the right chords with CHILDREN OF DUNE, a sequel and score infinitely superior to its predecessor. From the soft strokes of to achingly lovely "Dune Messiah" to the bomastic, almost Germanic royal main titles for "House Atreides" to the suitably epic "Inama Nushif," Tyler has produced a score so exceptional that even my composer favorites Hans Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams must be jealous. The music gives Frank Herbert's galactic melodrama truly human depth on screen, but even more importantly, stands apart as just wonderful music itself, worthy of being heard in the grandest symphony hall. CHILDREN OF DUNE has more themes, light motifs, and sophistication than almost anything else I've heard, at any level, be it film, television, or straight up, old-school classical music. This is a superior work, and Brian Tyler is a superior composer worthy of your money. Highest recommendation.
