Sweet Songs of Freedom to Dance Vibes and Chant on a Sunny Day!!!!!!

This album was released to aid in the campaign to free Jah Cure after his unfortunate incarceration. This album is sure to one day go down as one of the greatest modern roots reggae classics of our generation. Listen keenly to a fine artist on the verge of greatness. This was way before his voice matured to what it is today. He sounded like a rebel and now much calmer and wiser, he has grown up before our eyes. It is a great joy to revisit this fine piece of work after everything that has happened. Take a listen and remember that nothing is better than great lyrics combined with great roots instrumentation. Together we celebrate the genuis that is Jah Cure while we reflect on betterment for the human race. Take a nice wiff of Jah's cure and meditate to Jah Cure.

RESPECT DUE TO THE MAN, JAH CURE!

Reggae singer Siccaturie Alcock a.k.a. JAH CURE released his first disc, "THE ALBUM THE TRUTH." he was sitting in jail. in jai. The 21-year old singer was living out a 15-year sentence on trumped up charges. JAH CURE, who hails from St.James, had a thriving career at the time of his arrest and seemed set for a bright future as he was one of the leading young roots-style artists in Jamaica.
JAH CURE'S disc, "THE ALBUM, THE TRUTH" is essentially a collection of various singles, but it also features a couple of tracks previously unreleased. The lyrics are pure cultural- roots-style, with some excellent harmonies and dancehall "riddims." JAH CURE'S voice fluctuates between singing and a bit of toasting ( that's rapping to my fellow Americans). JAH CURE'S influences include singers such as Yami Bolo, Beres Hammond and Lionel Ritchie, however he has a style that is distinctly his own.

On the opening track, "SONGS OF FREEDOM," JAH CURE seems to be addressing the issue of being behind bars. In his lilting voice he sings, "Songs of freedom I cry, Blackman wipe the tears from your eye." Like much good poetry, the song has two meanings. Although this song is about his incarceration in jail, it is also about the struggles of all disenfranchised black people. This becomes apparent when he continues singing, "So many years of slavery, still they hold on, Blackman don't get weary, Jah, Jah never gone, them a work with conspiracy, I and I still trod on..."

THE FIREHOUSE CREW lay down the rhythms on most of the songs. Their well seasoned session playing has been the backbone for many artists. The band's modern dancehall-style lends itself well to JAH CURE'S majestic voice and his reality and spiritual based tunes. The two duos on this album are simply "irie." On the song "CHANT" JAH CURE'S singing blends seamlessly together with the gruff sounds of SPECTACULAR, together the two voices provide a spiritually powerful song. "WORKING SO HARD" finds JAH CURE and JAH MASON teaming up. The two differnt singing/chanting styles blend together to express the plight of the average person dealing with the everyday suffering and struggles in Babylon.

One song from "THE TRUTH THE ALBUM" that continually sticks in my head is, "JAH BLESS ME." JAH CURE sings with conviction and confidence as he tells the listener, "I know Jah, Jah bless me, no wicked heart can get me, no matter what they try." The heartfelt lyrics along with the beautiful melody make this one of the most memorable tunes on the CD. All songs on this album are excellent. It is difficult for me to find any faults with this disc.. From the first tune, "SONGS OF FREEDOM" to the closing song, "MOVE ON" you'll appreciate the message and the voice of one of Jamaica's true talents.

The 21-year old singer had been living out a 15-year sentence for rape and gun charges. JAH CURE was proven innocent and the charges were dropped. Considering Jamaica's political/economic situation, it is not surprising that JAH CURE was the victim of a frame-up. In spite of the charges and the ugly situation the facts remain, JAH CURE'S music is both spiritual and compelling. Respect due to the man, Jah Cure!

Years Active: '00s

Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, but raised in Kingston Town, golden-voiced singer Jah Cure (real name Siccature Alcock) became involved with reggae music as a teenager and rapidly rose to fame in the late '90s only to have his meteoric climb to the top halted by a jail sentence. In 1997 and only 18 years old, Jah Cure released the culturally minded single "King in This Jungle," a duet with Sizzla and produced by Beres Hammond. The single was a pivotal moment for Cure for a couple reasons. Hammond would...
