Dan lets his true colors shine

I've always loved Dan Wilson when he lets his folk and pop sensibilities mesh with supportive and clean production--and he's done that better and more consistently here than I've ever heard before. Whether in Semisonic of Trip Shakespeare (anyone remember them?), he's always had a sublime and amazing melodic gift. Here he holds nothing back and really lets that gift shine, along with his distinctive, one-of-a-kind voice and delivery. The record merits listening to (and owning) as a whole--the arc of the entire album feels like he's telling a story. And it's one I want to hear again and again.

Worth every penny -- you'll listen to this all winter!

This is a great record, full of smart, listenable tunes, a few big ideas, and a full-length vibe you can plug into and ride without stopping. I've been a longtime fan of DW's work with Trip Shakespeare and Semisonic, but this feels like he's really solidly landed with something he's ready to say. The only bummer is you'll want the next record when you get done with this one and it's probably a year away. Dude takes his time. Check out "Free Life" and "Come Home Angel." Gorgeous, plaintive pop.

Fresh.

Really, this isn't a completely original sound. It's not an individual revolution of a whole new way of doing things- but, that's just fine with me. This is meaningful music, and it's nice. It's sincere, but not sappy. It's fresg, not new, but fresh. Which is refreshing. It's worth the 10 dollars, it's worth your time, it's worth your thought, this album is worth it. I like it.
