Singer/guitarist Jake Hamilton takes a hiatus from his comrades in Jesus Culture to offer a set of roof-shaking praise tunes on his live solo debut Freedom Calling. His galvanizing, fervently God-centered music marries the radical idealism of early ‘70s Jesus Music with the volcanic force of grunge rock. Hamilton’s heroic vocal style takes on a harsh edge at times, bringing out the spiritual urgency within his songs. “War Drums,” “Supernatural Revolution” and “It’s a Garden” are burning expressions of belief with an almost cinematic sweep, spurred on by Brian Campbell’s overdrive bass and Seth Thomas’ resolute drumming. Southern rock and soul influences add a swampy element to tracks like “Breakout” and “Take It All.” A reverently revised version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” concludes the album. Overall, Hamilton’s take on Christian worship is bold and confrontational but he makes no apologies for his “dangerously pure” faith and his music doesn’t pull any punches either.

This is the best $10 I have spent ever! His lyrics are anointed & heart-felt. His passion is out of this world. The power within each song is limitless. Try it! I guarantee you'll like it

Jake Hamilton is an amazing artist(musical and drawing). I saw him live at Jesus culture in Dallas and his live show was just insane, in your face, all glory to God, worship music. His first album was great and I've been waiting diligently for this newest album freedom calling. It's such a different sound of worship music than anyone else. If he wasn't doing it for Jesus he'd definitely be in the top 10 in a modern rock list. But all glory to God that jake Hamilton is fulfilling his calling and making music and preaching the gospel for Jesus Christ. He's just an awesome anointed man of God! If you don't believe me, look up his podcasts on iTunes! Great preaching, great revelations, such an awesome heart! Anyways, I'm excited to keep jamming "Freedom Calling" already from what I heard - he just left off from where he stopped on "marked by heaven".
