Album Review
One-man Jewish-world-folk-pop act Rebbe Soul (Bruce Burger) gets into the groove and back to his roots with this album. Fringe goes further away from classic Western rock and deeper into Eastern and Hebrew music than Rebbe Soul (Burger's self-titled first album) ever did. He offers up new renditions of ancient Hebrew melodies ("Heenay Ma' Tov") and bluesy versions of Israeli standards ("Yerushalayim Shel Zahav," "Hatikvah"). Some of them are inspired by prayers — "Heenay Ma' Tov" is straight out of the Friday night Sabbath ceremony — but others are simply folk melodies or popular songs. In spite of the almost completely Hebrew lyrics and the quasi-spiritual subject matter, this album has probably been the most widely listened to by non-practicing Jews and non-Jews. It has also received by far the most attention from the media and the entertainment industry; "Harachaman (Prayer for Peace") was featured on the compilation album Prayer: A Multicultural Journey of Spirit, while "Avinu" received kudos from Billboard Magazine, among other publications. Both songs are beautifully done. Although they are nearly opposite in mood, they exemplify the appeal of the artist and the album; the blend of modern instrumentation and age-old music is flawless. ~ L. Katz, Rovi

Celebrate the beauty of this music!
RebbeSoul plays deeply moving arrangements of traditional Jewish melodies in ways that touch the soul, regardless of whether you're Jewish or not. I play this CD as background music when I'm at work to keep me sane, or to meditate. The guitar and balalaika are incredible. You've got to have this!
RebbeSoul-food!
bs'd This is on of my favorite musical collections..Period! It blends the most beautiful songs ever created with the genius of Bruce Burger (RebbeSoul) and his extraordinary guitar brilliance. This is a perfect cd. There is not one song to skip over or miss. I promise, you will be spellbound listening to this wonderful volume so beautifully performed, Mr. Burger opens with the lovely PRELUDE which quickly goes into a jazz version of TZMAH L'CHA NAFSHI. This is followed by on of the most wonderful songs ever composed, JERUSALEM OF GOLD. This song holds a special place in my heart because it is the song and tune to which I walked down the aisle. The next few songs are perfect complements to one another; KOL HA'OLAM to the perfectly performed (how many artists have attempted to copy Mr. Burger's sublime style to little avail) AVINU. Every song is played perfectly to a tune which fits its meaning and I defy you to find a more moving HATIKVAH. The CD ends with 2 short, but beautiful songs: BAYONI and BAMIDBAR. Each is an almost subliminal call to the heart and soul of every peace loving person. This is a CD that crosses musical and religious boundaries without preaching or pontificating. It is the unique person of RebbeSoul and the influences and beauty in his life have made his songs standards in a very few years. Check out this CD and if you do not love it...get your ears and heart checked.:-) Mamamitzvah -- MAY WE CONSTANTLY KEEP THE GEULAH IN OUR HEART, MIND AND SOUL AND MAY WE MERIT THE COMING OF MOSHIACH AND THE BUILDING OF THE BAIS HAMIKDASH TODAY!
Clean, soulful, and organically pure
This is one my favorite albums out of over 500 in my iTunes library. It always brings a smile to my ears when Shuffle brings up a cut from this album.
