Excellent -But Not Definitive
This is a wonderful recording -worthy of the great material. But it's not the definitive version of The Frogs -for that you need the original Broadway cast recording (also starring Nathan Lane). Fans of Stephen Sondheim, The Frogs, or Nathan Lane will want both recordings in their collections, but if you only have room for one the OBC is the way to go. This version was a concert recording with a loose narration to keep the storyline going. The Evening Primrose songs are a great addition to round out the recording. You really want both versions... ; )

Stephen Sondheim was the most highly regarded composer/lyricist for the musical theater in his generation. Having his first musical produced on Broadway in 1957 and his 14th in 1994, he straddled two eras. The broadly popular musical theater of his early years gradually became a more insular art form, addressing a smaller, more dedicated, more serious audience.
