Please Bring Back The Keyboards.
A Cure fan for 20+ years now, I've ridden wave after wave of Robert Smith's decisions and nearly all of them have been to the bands benefit. Different lineup changes, missing people, new people, new music styles, the whole nine, I've been a fan through it all. That said, I cannot for the life of me understand why he's decided to strip the keyboards out of this current lineup. While the return of Porl is awesome, I don't agree with Smith's comment that "he can handle all of the missing sounds on the guitar". The backbone of these songs has always been Simon on bass and the pretty ambient synth playing by Roger (or Porl). With no keys, this sounds like a rock cover band playing the Cure. Not cool.
Ditto to Above: Bring back the Keyboards!!
I most definitely have to agree, being a Cure fan for the past two decades, that the Cure without the keyboards is not the Cure at all. It just doesn't ring true. You can tell that there's something missing. Still, everything else is in place, but with the missing sound it's not much worth it.
keep it guitars!
1st the cure can do what ever they like and it will be great! 2nd...why 3 songs? the whole thing is great. the guitar playing buy porl and smith is intense and raw. i love all the feedback. if the vocals were really low this would sound shoegaze. smith's new shecter guitar sounds great. and as well as the bass-vi on plain song. its cool to hear the songs as a 4 piece band! i hope the new record sounds this raw!
