iTunes Review

Hailing from Albany, Georgia, Field Mob’s Southern hip-hop is more country than cosmopolitan. “I'm from the home of racist rednecks and confederate flags / Ku Klux Klan, them hussies, politicians and drags,” Boondox introduces himself on “Don’t Want No Problems.” On From the Roota to the Toota, the duo of Kalage and Boondox find a way to cross Goodie Mob’s backwoods spirituality with the loudmouth mischief of Eminem and Ludacris, but what really sets them apart is their storytelling skills. The duo’s yarns about late nights and frustrated mornings spent riding Chevys, chasing females, and skirmishing with neighborhood characters of all varieties makes Roota feel like an overnight adventure in Albany. Whether they are describing a day spent sweating in county court (“It’s Hell”), or living with the legacy of slavery (“Nothing 2 Lose”), it’s Field Mob’s incomparable taste for local color that brings to life the hardship and humor of their home turf.
