Undisputed Southern rap royalty, 8Ball & MJG have been steady putting out records since 1992, representing Memphis to the fullest and enlightening listeners with a never-ending supply of smooth beats and smoother lyricism. From the Bottom 2 the Top is their tenth album, and is exactly what fans want and expect from the Dirty South pioneers. Hard-hitting 808 beats, soulful keyboard riffs, and glutinous bass lines are in full effect, with verses that stick to their long-standing script of making money off the females, staying faded, and luxury automobiles. Though somewhat limited subject matter might stifle lesser artists, 8Ball and MJG are in fine form sticking with what they know, dropping knowledge on tracks like "Put the Money In My Hand," "Blunts & Broads," "Down Chick," and "Champagne." Nearly two decades deep in the game, they're still putting out quality tunes and doing it on their own, with no guest stars and no big name producers, just two old school pimps over some dope beats.
