My favorite of all current Albums

When I first listened to Amber Asylum, I though they made the music for a amazing movie. Ends up there is no movie amazing enough for them. Most of their scores are ambience that places you into some kind of story. These scores are among my favorites. "Rivera", "Black Waltz" and "Western Trance" are by far the darkest and most impressive if you don't want the whole CD.

Clean out of the water

The only time I saw Amber Asylum live they were opening for Neurosis. They blew an audience full of metal heads, crusty punks, and emo kids (this was the 90s emo had different connotations back then) straight out of the water. No one there had probably ever even briefly thought about the possibility of making truly epic, frightening, and completely gorgeous metal using traditionally classical instruments.

During the last song it started to dawn on the audience that they had started playing enemy of the sun. One by one as the members of Amber Asylum left the stage a member of Neurosis would walk on and take their place...

It remains, to this day, one of the greatest shows I have ever witnessed.

I have been a huge fan of this band since. The best part? Unlike a lot of really overwhelming live bands, they live up to what they are on the albums.
