Awesome!
If you like her previous stuff, then get this album. It is full of soul deeply connected to the earth. It educates, uplifts and entertains. This artist deserves a GRAMMY for this work. Red, Black on Blues and many other gems are exceptional. Right in the footsteps of the Native artists before her like Buffy Saint Marie, she is an unparalleled singer and writer. This is the real deal. Way more than pocahantas with a guitar. This is good plain and simple.
Outstanding work
With 17 tracks in 74 minutes, Pura Fe' explores so many musical territories: native american harmony, electric rock and blues, rap, acoustic slide guitar and even a spoken word. The result is an album full of humanity and feeling, with a mixture of sounds that defies categorization. Two of my favorite tracks are the upbeat rockers "Borders" and "Stand up for human pride," whose political and social conscious lyrics often question the status quo. The melodious acoustic version of "Mahk Jchi" (which recalls Joni Mitchell), the heart-wrenching and powerful vocals of "My Angel," and the beautiful piano ballad "Back in the World," offer a more intimate and softer touch to the album.
Peppered throughout the album are several native american songs often sung in harmony and native language. My favorite being the awesome "Duhngeh," which in its first minute is presented in traditional form with just a drum beat and vocals, and then presented again with an uplifting clash of string instruments added.
Pura fe' is truly a unique voice and has achieved a success with this wonderful album. I will keep this on my playlist for a long time.
