iTunes Review

Any album that takes its name from Scarface's Tony Montoya's favorite phrase (say it quickly) can't be taken too seriously. Part of the beauty of ska-punk garage band Smash Mouth's debut is with their devil-may-care-but-we-hope-he-doesn't attitude. Songs like "Beer Goggles," "The Fonz," and "Pet Names" (with its line "You used to call me schnookums and s*** like that") beg to be laughed with, not at. On "Padrino," a Mexican guitar prelude straight out of a Sergio Leone film bursts into a minor-key double-time rocker. While the band's cover of "Why Can't We Be Friends" blends ska and funk into the grooviest lament ever. Oddly enough their hit single, "Walking on the Sun," a gritty cocktail lounger with a cool organ solo, is the aberration here. Fush Yu Mang finds Smash Mouth at their hard skanking best. Few albums capture the energy, grit, and pure fun of third wave ska as well as Smash Mouth's debut.

Good but what Happened to these guys

Man this was an album that was important in my ska inspired roots, but Smash Mouth is nothing but a joke in what Ska is really about. Good album though. The other songs on this album are nothing like 'Walkin on the Sun' even though that was the song that made me buy the album, the other songs were WAY BETTER. I think i bought this album in 6th grade along with Third Eye Blind's record... Seriously this album made me realize what i liked in music when I really started listening to the other tracks... Made me realize i Loved Ska before i knew what Ska was... as well as The Mighty Mighty Bosstones album 'Let's Face It.' You know that a lot of people will say none of 'third wave ska' is really ska but I LOVE ALL SKA!!!! and i owe a lot to these guys! check out this album... I paid like $15 for it in the day, so you must be gettin a deal

Padrino

I've only downloaded a few songs from this album, but believe me, as soon as I get the money, this album will be mine!

I was a fan of Astrolounge, and a longtime fan of Smash Mouth, but the other reveiwers are correct when they say this is by far the best album! With Hilarious Lyrics (and Walkin' on the Sun's lyrics all too true) and a crazy fun ska beat, this album is a must have for ska and Smash Mouth fans alike!

Flo, Pet names and Padrino being my favorites so far, I'm eager to hear what I'm missing out!

awesome band
