iTunes Review
A guitarist who has played with Racer X and Mr. Big, Paul Gilbert is what is commonly known as a “guitar player’s guitar player.” He can do things that others dream about. His speed is immediately noticeable, and on Fuzz Universe he makes that known with the title track and plenty elsewhere. But it isn’t just about speed. It’s about tone, rhythm, technique, empathy and so much more. Gilbert appeals to more than just guitar players because he can also snag a gorgeous melody on his way up to Mount Olympus. The instrumental wizardry of “Blue Orpheus” isn’t something to be taken lightly. Even when he slows down in spots during “Will My Screen Door Stop Neptune,” there is a harmonic flow that goes beyond the basic notes. “Don’t Rain On My Firewood” takes the blues and turns it upside down, while the metallic tones of “Plastic Dracula” flow forth with a passion missing in much of the music’s more commercial artists. The rhythmic injections of “Blowtorch” make one scratch their head. He’s ridiculously athletic with his instrument and deserving of every accolade sent his way.

Paul Gilbert Deserves All Our Money...Buy This Album!!
How many guitarists honestly keep pushing their envelope and expanding their skills? Hardly Any!! The expansion of his vocabulary on guitar rivals any progression of any artist/musician I have ever experienced. I saw Mr. Big at Toad's Place (New Haven, CT) in 1991 and knew that his skill was special but the three instrumental albums Get Out of My Yard, Silence Followed by a Deafening Road, & Fuzz Universe released since 2004 are just other-worldly in terms of guitar. Paul Gilbert is a person who has gotten in touch with his expression of notes. That is something I have no problem (and recommend) paying for.
The Master Returns
Thanks Paul for making music still. Your hours of blood sweat and tears go un-notice!. Guitar is not an easy instrument to play, how you make it look so easy is BEYOND me. The riffs on this cd blows my mind, it really takes you to another place. I'm amazed how fast and relaxed his right hand is, just listen to the riffs on the title track. Buy this cd and listen to one of the greatest in the world, simple as that. IMHO; In the world of instrumetal guitar music there are only 3 people that matter to me

if u like paul
This album paul focuses on more of perfecting his phrasing in song than pure shred as well all know he is capable of. no two songs are te same, making for an interesting time. yet for my money mantra the lawn would be my choice to pick to pick if you only want to try 1 song. by the end of the song, something just gets to you and it needs to be felt firsthand. while i recomend buying the whole album to get an epic ending by the time you reach the final song, highlights are olympic, propeller, and will my screen door stop neptune. Mantr THE lawn is a must
