ONE OF THE BEST OF 2007
Chris Zippel has been around the electronica scene for more than 15 years. In the late 90s he made "Nu Ambient Grooves" which were landmark cds at the time. As great as those cds were, he has taken it a step further with Genuine Horizon. I was excited to know he was now on the Elektrolux label, so I knew it was going to be good. I have been a big fan of Elektrolux for a long time, and I know they dont release bad music. Well, Genuine Horizon was what I expected, and alot more. I predict this being the chillout release of the year. This is a very well produced, highly emotional and very atmospheric work with plenty of chilled beats to keep your toe tappin as you chill to the sounds created by Mr. Zippel. On my first listen I knew this was a special cd. And then it happened, I was totally psyched to hear some hints of "Shoegaze". I did not expect this from Mr. Zippel and it adds a whole new dimension to this release. Like Ulrich Schnauss, he incorporate shoegaze into the beautiful ambience. But unlike Schnauss, he uses it as a compliment to his sounds, and not as the basis of the music. The small hints of atmospheric guitar to go along with layers of electronic ambience makes this a masterpiece. Do yourself a favor and download the Chillout CD of the Year!
When you have been around Electronica
Depth, detail, excitement, contrast, crescendo, a full range of fascinating sounds and complex structure..its an album of fine wine in all of its beauty, with layers of sound so well integrated...plenty to drift away with ...surpasses so may others with real creaivity...
Really amazing album
Genuine Horizon reminds me why I love Chris Zippel's work so much. Its ambient undercurrent and samples allow my mind to float freely while the rythym keeps me tethered to the motion of the piece. Truly enjoyable.
