iTunes Review

If HEALTH’s baffling, self-titled debut of 2007 was too noisy and splintering for you, Get Color may offer some solace. It offers a truly enchanting and more cohesive listening experience, threaded together by the L.A. band’s affinity for electronic pastiches and old- school, post-punk textures. One would bet these guys were weaned on groups like Swell Maps and Cabaret Voltaire, and if not, well, there must be some kind of mutated DNA in the indie world that found its way to the Smell (the club where HEALTH cut their teeth). From the gentle screech of oscillating electronics to drums that boom and echo, from the ethereal and disconnected vocals to the woodshop buzz of the guitars, HEALTH’s music may rattle the faint of heart, but it inarguably emboldens the brave and the curious. “In Violet” reminds the listener of the beauty possible in industrial music, and “Die Slow” evinces the dance-floor playfulness of the genre. Tracks like “In Heat” and “We Are Water” put “cutting edge” back into modern music’s lexicon with power, grace and passion.

Hella nice follow up

I'd say that Get Color is better than HEALTH. There's more variety in the songs and they rely less on noise and more on art. Get We Are Water, Die Slow, and Severin if not the whole album. Keep it up boys.

you will love each other

health are one of the best LA bands right now. 'die slow' is a must have song.

Hard to Distill a Great Performance Into a Recording

I saw these guys live without hearing their music and enjoyed a lot. Noisy, fast, and pretty intense. On Get Color, their music is still noisy, but very impressionistic. The vocals are reminiscent of shoegaze singings - almost incomprehendible. The music feels like a jam session without much direction or organization. Don't get me wrong, it's very precise, but it wasn't taking me anywhere. However, I could not stop listening to "Die Slow" - it is an amazing song.

Stemming from a D.I.Y. noise scene based around the downtown L.A. art space The Smell, HEALTH make mathy indie rock with tribal drums, squealing guitars, asymmetrical basslines, and a home-made guitar pedal/microphone called a Zoothorn. As a four-piece led by Jacob Duzsik, the band played its first show after practicing together for six months, and started making a go in Los Angeles, playing ten-minute sets with like-minded local bands like Ex Models, No Age, and Mika Miko. After a few tours and...
