iTunes Review
The mighty Aerosmith hit their stride with their second album, Get Your Wings. Their debut had been a satisfying collection that was primal and raw, with a mammoth hit in “Dream On.” Get Your Wings turns up the volume with several of the band’s fan favorites. The salacious “Lord of the Thighs,” the extra-terrestrial “Spaced” and the one-two punch of “S.O.S. (Too Bad)” and the rockabilly classic “Train Kept A-Rollin’,” done as pure stadium hard-rock, are songs that defined the band’s early appeal. Singer Steven Tyler’s strong personality is in full evidence as he rasps and toys with the words and melodies. “Seasons of Wither” is a remarkable ballad, a trace of tenderness coming from a band best known for their wisecracking tales, as “Same Old Song and Dance” makes plain to hear. “Woman of the World” is the perfect essay on ‘70s-styled rock ‘n’ roll decadence with a woman who calls her own shots, while “Pandora’s Box” is an expression of pure old-school blues lust, complete with an R&B sax and piano to best make the rather obscene point.
Customer Reviews
Classic Aerosmith
This may not be the album that launched Aerosmith into the world of hit singles but it contains so many Aerosmith fan favorites and gems that are'nt that well known to the mass market, like Lord of The Thighs, S.O.S (Too Bad), and of course the classic seasons of wither. Songs the mass audience may know are the singles Train Kept A Rollin', and Same Old Song and Dance which are both classic Aerosmith hits that are consistenly played on rock radio and in Thier live show.
Love it
Such a blusey sleazy album. Great riffs, drumming, songwriting, and there version of Train Kept a Rollin.
Aerosmith takes flight
Get your wings sound was really the heart of Aerosmith, that was caputred on record for the first time. While the debut was raw and great, this one was the first to bring that tight sounding rythum section of Kramer, Hamilton and Whitford to record. With Joe's driving licks and Steven's inuendos in his lyrics the boys setout to conquer the world with their nasty bluesy straight ahead rock. While the other bands of the late 60s and early 70s seemd to be pretentious and complicated, Aerosmith was the opposite, down in your face rock, that would actually tour and come to your town to blitz you with their rock.
