Album Review
The marvelous title track alone, with Eddie Kendricks gliding into the stratosphere, made this an instant winner. There were several fine songs that weren't hits, such as "Not Now, I'll Tell You Later" and "I've Been Good to You," and there sure wasn't anything wrong with powerhouse cuts like "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." The Temptations would score four straight number one hits in the mid-'60s, each one an unforgettable classic.
Customer Reviews
gettin' ready
a solid piece of work. besides the hits (get ready and ain't too proud to beg) there are a number of great songs that establish the temptations as one of the few artists on motown that made you glad you bought the album. there is no filler-david ruffin does an outstanding job with say you and little miss sweetness. eddie delivers strong performances with i've been good to you, it's a lonely world without your love and the fantastic fading away-the vocals and the string arrangement on this track are outstanding-the line "where is your love goin?" said at the end of the chorus makes you wonder too! paul williams delivers two solid tracks, lonely, lonely man am i which you can feel the pain of a man who lost his girl and who you gonna run to which asks where will she go after the man she left him for will turn when she gets dumped. the bonus tracks would have been better served if placed in another album. overall an underated body of work by the greatest vocal group of all time.
Gettin Ready
The Temptations were the only Motown male group where every member at some point in their career together did lead vocals. This album features David Ruffin,Eddie Kendricks, and Paul Williams in their prime as lead singers.Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin would shine on future albums.Enjoy Paul Williams who regretably took his life on Lonely Man am I and Who you Gonna Run to as well as I've been Good to You.This is one of their best productions. Imagine the seamless choreography which accentuated their performances and you have experienced this thing we called The Temptations.
2920 Got it Wrong
The reviewer 2920 says that "Gettin' Ready" is underrated and then only gives the album 4 stars! Heh heh heh...as a truly classic Temptation album with absolutely no flaws, he has underrated the album himself because it is clearly a 5 Star album!
