This duo impresses more with each album!!
I'm not sure iTunes classification of this Genre as "Alternative" quite fits, but then again, I can't think of any genre which would fit this album or this group - and that's the way it should be. It is pretty amazing, the music these two are creating together. Each time I listen to this album, I notice a new effect, a new instrument, or a new vocal part. I mean seriously, spoons are played in Under The Gun, some type of glass harmonica in Patrimony, the planned 'distortion' in Patrimony, and the impressive vocal styles. No one else is doing this or could accomplish this with two people. You have to check it out. Under the Gun is definitely my personal favorite - I feel like I'm at a southern revival gone wrong, and it's perfect!
fantastic - a must have for any music-lover
these guys are absolutely fantastic. i'm quite familiar with a lot of alexander's previous work, and this collaboration is a welcome addition to his repertoire and artistic growth. you know how some artists seem to just write the "same song over and over" again? well, that couldn't be further from the truth here. these guys move effortlessly between so many musical styles, musical shapes, lyrical ideas, timbres, etc... their dexterity is quite incredible. it's music like this that gives me hope about the future of the form. and it's music like this that simultaneously leaves me scratching my head over why artists like this are not superstars instead of the likes of gaga or spears.
Totally gangstah
A & M expands the repetoire by mixing baroque classical, glitch, Kate Bush, and gospel revival (?). Yup. Pretty much unclassifiable, layered, and deeply, darkly humorous. Dude, there is no other record in existence with this many styles and instrumentation on it for four bucks. I am happy that I will be able to say "I knew them when...". Will you?
