Completely Fantastic.

This is easily Kamelot's best album released so far. Don't expect as much power metal though, Kamelot has made their own genre. Every song is beautiful, not just awesome, but beautiful. Khan is definetly at his best, and it is obvious how much Kamelot as a whole has matured and progressed as musicians and song writers. If you can recite you alphabet to the letter K, then this album is for you.

Kamelot Does It Again

Kamelot has made yet another leap forward in the genre of symphonic power metal that they have defined. Ghost Opera is a very solid release from Kamelot that may even surpass The Black Halo in their fans' hearts as the greatest Kamelot album yet. If you're just getting into this band, then this will be an excellent album for you to get started on. However, I would urge you to buy the limited edition in stores instead unless you're just a casual listener. The limited edition has a bonus track titled "The Pendulous Fall" and comes with a DVD that holds the music video for the song "Ghost Opera."

Good. But not great.

This year has brought an unusual number of progressive rock disappointments (Rush and Dream Theater's latest come to mind). Some of the most reliable bands within the genre just don't seem to be pulling it off this year. That said, I'm really not sure whether this album fits into that category. Kamelot is one of the most consistent and reliable power metal bands around and, although I can't say I'm disappointed with Ghost Opera, I can't say it ranks with their best. It's a solid effort and there are really no bad songs to be found here. It's just missing some of the magic - the goose pimples - that their last two albums inspired. If you're new to Kamelot this is not the place to start. Epica and The Black Halo are their best works and really represent their talents on a level that, unfortunately, won't be found on Ghost Opera.
