Album Review

This is hard rock in a near-industrial mode—all relentlessly pounding drums and bass, relentlessy chording guitars, relentlessly ranting vocals. The challenge with such an approach is to see how close to sheer noise you can get and still have something definable as "music": it's a challenge Barkmarket meets about half the time, during which they come off as difficult but rewarding, rather in the manner of Jane's Addiction, and misses about half the time, during which they just come off as pointlessly distorted random arrangements of unpleasant sound.

Customer Reviews

Brilliant

The person who wrote this review is ....... This is as close to pure rock-n-roll as exists. Brillian playing, songwriting, production, singing. Turn it up, very loud. Consume large amounts of cheap brewski. It makes me engorged.

Insane amounts of rock

Amen brotha, the iTunes reviewer=word salad. Just tossed together bits of limp commentary. This band is ferocious, painfully original, and tragically unknown. There are little pockets of Barkmarket fans everywhere. You just don't know. The drummer looked like a Nordic God, the bass player was this insane cornfed miscreant, and Sardy is just the man. Their songs rise and fall like a tornado, and the production (ala Sardy) will melt your face. Bow to the mighty Barkmarket.

Singer/guitarist David Sardy, bassist John Nowlin, and excellently named drummer Rock Savage joined forces in 1987, promptly issuing the self-released demo 1-800-Godhouse the following year. 1989's...
