Hilarious - and a great commentary on the holidays
This song is hilarious. Anyone who would find this religiously offensive doesn't get it. This does not poke fun at Christianity as one reviewer put it, but rather pokes fun at the rampant commercialism of Christmas and the concept of Santa Claus, which has nothing to do with the birth of Christ. It also speaks to the wish that Santa brought everyone presents. So the girl doesn't think Jesus was the son of god, big deal. That is not an insult against Christianity, she's a Jew, for crying out loud, that's what her belief is. Santa Claus and commercialism have replaced Jesus during Christmas as the important thing, making this holiday more and more like the Roman pagan holiday on which many of its traditions were based. Pointing out this disconnect in a humorous way is what good comedy is all about.
Harmless fun
A little bit of harmless and, overall, pretty mild fun. Nothing to be offended by here unless you are exactly the sort of person who deserves to be offended.
Funny track
Sure, the song is in poor taste. So is Bloodhound Gang! So is Robin Williams! So are many things that are funny. The trick to humor is not taking yourself or the topic being parodied too seriously. I am not a Jew. I was not offended. Sarah Silverman is a hoot. If she is representative of her culture, then I clearly need to hang out with more Jew girls.
