Album Review

Richley has a knack for catchy pop hooks and clever lyrics. The cock-eyed optimism of "Can't Lose Them All" and the cold pessimism of "The Way It Never Was" are good indicators of the mind-set at work here. Her well-grounded vocals are nicely complimented by Hugh Padgham's (Sting, the Police) folk-rock production.

Hello Old Friend

This album is good and stands the test of time. The biggest highlight is Hello Old Friend. The lyrics are amazing and every time I place this song people ask who it is and what is the name of it. One of the best songs ever. The rest of the album has a mix of great songs and some that are ok to above average. The good songs and Hello Old Friend make the overall rating 4 stars. If you liked Chinese Boxes...

If you bought "Chinese Boxes" because you heard "The Absense of Your Company" on Grey's Anatomy, then you are missing out on Kim's masterpiece. This is a perfect album! PERFECT! There is not one mistake on it. She blends rock and country so well. Her lyrics are so smart and haunting. Some of the songs are so deep, they can make me cry. You should buy this album and love it for the treasure it is.

My favorite Kim Richey album

Best Cd of Kim's. Pop smooth melodies that catch your ear and make you stay to listen with their smart lyrics. Chill music best listened to with a glass of wine! "So it Goes" is my personal favorite.

Genre: Country

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Ohio might not seem like a hotbed of music, but when you have an aunt who owns a record shop, you've certainly got a leg up. That's how Kim Richey got hooked on what would become her chosen path — digging through bins of 45s and listening to everything she could, from Janis Joplin to the Lovin' Spoonful. She started playing guitar in high school, but didn't rack up much stage time until college. That was when she started a band and sang a lot of harmony. After college, she did a lot of moving,...
