Album Review

In 1999, Vertical Horizon didn't have much with which to follow its breakthrough single, "Everything You Want." And yet the song's percolating groove provided enough sustenance for listeners led astray by Secret Samadhi, Live's pompous follow-up to Throwing Copper. Now, Vertical has returned with Go, an album in which "When You Cry" stands in for "Everything You Want" and introduces the album's catch phrase psychotherapy, with Matthew Scannell singing "I can't wait until you let me down." "I'm Still Here" seems to cross the band's 1999 hit with Michelle Branch's "Everywhere," which was produced by Go helmer John Shanks. "Echo" is at once the album's hookiest and most opaque moment, applying the familiar acoustic/electric, quiet-loud formula. "I don't want to be just another echo," Scannell sings. [This version of the album includes the bonus track "Better When You're Not There."]

Does anybody else out there find it bone chilling that under the 'Listeners Also Bought' section of your favorite albums you find YOUR other favorite bands and albums... personally, Tonic, Better Than Ezra, Vertical Horizon and Barenaked Ladies are among my very favorite bands!!! Check the 'Yes' in the lower right corner if you agree!!!

out with the old, in with the new

VH must have sold their soul to the devil for the fame they received with Everything You Want. Ever since, their albums have gotten progressively worse and worse. This band was at its musical peak with Running on Ice and Live Stages. Whoever advised them to lose the acoustic vibes and jams for edgy modern rock should be shunned forever from the music industry. James Taylor (their original influence) would be apalled. Cmon Guys! Have some dignity! Bring back the GOOD MUSIC you were making in the 90's.

Good Stuff but iTunes Plus anybody?

I love their music, but I'll definitely pick up this whole album when it goes iTunes Plus, can't deal with the lower quality.

Matt Scannell and Keith Kane first performed together at Georgetown University, where the two...
