Album Review

Eugene Mirman is a master at telling absurdist stories, a good percentage of which are entirely true. On his third album, the comedian is once again inspired by our incongruous world along with the Internet that connects it. An online political survey (“Who should be our next President?”) that redirects to a pill-selling site gets “the Mirm” thinking about some lucrative alternatives (“Should Scott Baio have his own mayo?”), while a certain airline (it’s bleeped out on the album) and the Kafka-esque experience that comes with flying in 2009 provide a hilarious 11-minute routine that closes the show. You either love his snideness or hate his smugness, plus he certainly isn’t afraid to shock, so use the album’s title as a chuckle test and decide accordingly. Edgy, sardonic types with a taste for the wicked will be rolling.

WTF?

I love Eugene's comedy, but it sounded like he was performing stand-up in a mental ward. Great material, but whoever was responsible for miking the audience should have to spend the rest of eternity locked in a tiny room with only the sound of canned laughter to keep them company.

Ahh Blurg! You

First of all, Eugene's comedy is very much my style - absurd and out of left field. The actual comedy on this album is great, and I really wanted to give it 5 stars. Unfortunately, during the frist half of the album there is an audience member with an EXTREMELY annoying laugh that is VERY loud and he snorts very loudly as he inhales; and he seems to find literally every single joke to be the funniest thing he's ever heard in his life. This guy is very distracting and I found myself ignoring Eugene's jokes because I kept thinking to myself "This guy needs to shut up!" It is VERY apparent that this album is actually a recording from 3 to 4 different performances, and was mixed together very poorly resulting in dramatic differences in volume and often times cutting the sound completely off right after a joke to transition to another. And unfortunatly the guy with the annoying laugh is mixed back into the album for the last 10 minutes of the album. If the record label had had a smarter producer that had used ONE performance for the whole album and used a better sound board operator, I would absolutely LOVE this album.

Spelling humor incorrectly is childish. Eugene Mirman is a genius.
