Album Review

Rebecca St. James sounds wise beyond her 18 years on her second album, God. St. James is a passionate songwriter, proclaiming her love for the lord in a variety of inventive ways. But the true strength of the album is her beautiful voice, which soars throughout.

Still Great

This album still sounds great! Its been a while since I listened, but it brings back such good memories of when I discovered Rebecca through this album. In my opinion this is her strongest album, as far as every song being solid ... each track has the makings of hit songs, that are catchy, memorable and excel in musicality. I believe I had this album on cassette back in the day, so never a CD or digital download, and in thinking about songs I would like to buy, I couldn't pick just a few ... I must buy the whole album, its still relevant musically and lyrically.

She's done better

It seems obvious to the listener that Rebecca St. James was trying to stretch out from her first album, which sounded a lot like Amy Grant's style. Rebecca definitely wanted to go down a different road. While her passion for God is very obvious throughout all the songs, I don't really like the sound of this album. It almost has an unfinished quality to it. There are a few gems on here, such as "God" and "Speak to Me". But most of the songs just don't appeal to me. That being said, Rebecca certainly conveys her love for Jesus through her music.

Definitely Had Potential

The Alanis Morrisette influence is evident (which is not a bad thing) and it's actually a well written album overall. The biggest problem here was the inability of Christian artists/producers to create an electric guitar tone that wasn't total crap. This came out during the time when Christian radio frowned upon any kind of distortion in the guitars and then if an artist attempted to be "edgy" and use it, the producers made it sound like it was played through a little pocket amp and just ruined what could have been timeless songs. Like I said, great songs...crappy guitar sound.
