better then I thought it would be

Given that this was recorded in 2000, and I just discovered it I was surprised to find that I liked it enough to buy it and then sat down to listen to it and really enjoyed it and so I listened to it again and liked it even more. The songs suit Mick, he has never been the best singer although he is a rock icon, there are better voices. That being said he is in fine voice here, better then he has been on some of the Stones albums in my opinion. This is not as raunchy as a Stones album, and it seems more mainstream if I can use that term, but it works. With the help of some of his friends (I should have friends like this) Bono, Pete Townshend, Lenny Kravitz, Rob Thomas and Joe Perry, this album of many different styles has held up and I like it.

Great CD!

When this came out, Rolling Stone gave it five stars, but other critics didn't like it and it didn't sell. But it's a GREAT collection of songs and performance. I'm not a diehard Stones fan and, in any case, these songs are not typical Stones songs (but you can't get away from the fact that it's Jagger singing), but I must say it's a FANTASTIC album. I find that this album is among the 25 albums that I play much more than any others. Give it a chance ... I think many of you will be surprised!

bland

Visions of Paradise sounds like a boring Matchbox Twenty song, albeit with a more interesting singer. Everybody Getting High has a terrible chorus and is too fussy. I can't stand the song "Joy", it just sounds like Jagger trying to write a U2 song. There is a computerized drum sound in "Goddess In The Doorway" and "Gun" that is kind of cheap sounding, in addition to the songs themselves being totally forgettable. Since I bought this album ten years ago, I've listened to those two songs about twice. There are three good songs on this album: "God Gave Me Everything", "Don't Call Me Up", and "Brand New Set of Rules". "Hide Away" is decent, but it's overproduced and ends up sounding kind of sterile.

I liked the Wandering Spirit album a lot - it was a raw sounding record. This album is just so overproduced, for the most part.

As the lead singer for the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger is one of the most popular and influential frontmen in the history of rock & roll. Jagger fronted the Rolling Stones for over 20 years before he began a solo career in 1985. At the time of the release of his debut solo album, She's the Boss, it appeared that the Stones may have been approaching the end of their career, but it soon transpired that Jagger's solo career would run concurrently with that of the...
