iTunes Review

This album finds Michael Tait leading his bandmates through a well-rounded set of worship originals and covers with a palpable sense of mission. Tait’s sure grasp of his grooves gives these tracks an insistent rhythmic undertow to match the brawny guitars and rallying-cry background vocals. God’s Not Dead benefits from forceful new material written by Jason Ingram, Jared Anderson, and Me in Motion’s Seth Mosley. Tracks like “The King Is Coming,” “Here We Stand," and "Pouring It Out for You” are musically bold and lyrically fervent. More nuanced but equally effective is “All the Way,” a rock waltz lent color by acoustic guitar and organ. Newsboys complement their fresh material by injecting "fresh" into such worship favorites as “Forever Reign,” “Your Love Never Fails," and "Revelation Song.” Worth special mention are the guest vocals of Tait’s old dcTalk partner Kevin Max on “God’s Not Dead (Like a Lion)” and “I Am Second.” Tait and the ‘Boys make powerful praise music together, and that’s good news indeed.

This is a worship album - get over it!

To those like "trentman" who are complaining about how it isnt upbeat and doesnt have any major hits, that is because this is a worship album. Much like adoration, this is slow generic praise songs. As for Tait being "the death of the newsboys" you could'nt be more wrong. Did you not see the numbers Born Again has put up? Get educated people.

Not the Newsboys I grew up listening to

Michael Tait is the death of Newsboys. Actually that is kind of harsh and I think ever since Phil and Peter left the group the Newsboys should have called it quits. Think whoever they got got to tackle the new vocals wouldn't measure up to their previous success. This doesn't sound anything like the Newsboys I grew up with. Music isn't catchy and very mediocre. There are no songs that I will be singing at the top of my lungs, that will get stuck in my head, or that I'll hit the repeat button(aka shine, breakfast, take me to your leader, he reigns, million pieces, etc...) I like Tait and think he has fantastic vocals but he doesn't belong as a Newsboy member. Think he is better off as a solo artist or forming his own group. (still want a dc talk reunion somewhere down the road but as long as he is a Newsboy that will never happen). Thrilled if people like the direction the Newsboys are going with Tait but I am not a fan. Until they put out an album that proves me wrong guess I'll have to settle for listening to the oldies!

Originality?

This doesn't sound like the newsboys, w tait it just sounds like DC Talk... Plus many of these songs are remakes from popular worship bands Jesus Culture and Hillsong. Lack of originality, sounds alright. They could have at least included original tunes.

Biography

Formed: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Genre: Christian & Gospel

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

One of the more media-exposed Christian rock bands of the '90s, Newsboys formed in the late '80s around a core of John James, Peter Furler, and Philip Urry. Though early in its career the band was panned for a perceived over-reliance on religious clichés in its lyrics, Newsboys later grasped secular music's alternative revolution in the early '90s for an image makeover, with good results. The group gained six number one singles on the Christian charts, and has been featured in more secular media...
