Album Review

Forever Gold: Marvin Gaye is obviously not as thorough and expansive as his anthology, but it's a great selection showcasing some of Gaye's most popular hits. The dozen-track set spans Gaye's 40-plus years in music by featuring some of his treasured love songs on a live setting, therefore a less-than-polished production won't be nearly as distracting. Alas, mainstays such as "Got to Give It Up," "I Want You," and "Let's Get It On" make Forever Gold: Marvin Gaye an enjoyable effort from St. Clair. Those who are unfamiliar with Gaye's work as a whole will find this collection a nice starting point.

Gold!!

Gold is truly a must-have collection of Marvin Gaye's biggest hits. It essentially chronicles his entire career in 2 discs. The first disc is all his hits from the early Motown days, including his many duets with Tammi Terrell and Kim Weston. The second disc begins with What's Going On, which is viewed by many as the beginning of his independence of Motown, when he really began to express himself more personally. It is really a terrific collection for those new to his work, but for more hardcore fans, I really recommend getting his full albums like What's Going On and Let's Get It On.

A troubled Genius

Despite his personal problems, Marvin Gaye was able to lay bare his soul for some of the greatest music the world has known. Starting with his early Motown production-line hits, the first disc also runs through his duets, and ends with his work with producer Norman Whitfield. the second disc covers his more personal material, including the social, political masterpiece "What's Going On" album, and running through his erotic period with "Let's Get it On" and "I Want You", and ending with his last hit, "Sexual Healing." in short, this is a great compilation from a Genius.

Marvin is Gold!!!

Man... I love Marvin Gaye's music. He, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Aretha Fraklin and Tammy Terrel are like the gods of plack music sitting around the table at The Last Supper. If your interested in a good R and B music, buy this ablum!
