Sonic Youth had been progressively flirting with conventional song structures with each successive album, so when the group signed their first major label record contract their fan base worriedly waited to hear the results. It had become customary for underground bands making the big leap into the major league system to lose what it was that made them special in blatant attempts to capture a wider audience. However, this was Sonic Youth. And while tracks such as “Kool Thing” (the album’s single, featuring a humorous cameo from Public Enemy’s Chuck D), “Dirty Boots” and “Mote” feature broadly appealing guitar hooks, there is no clean-up in the band’s overall sound; their experimental edge can still be heard in the odd tunings and expanded instrumental passages. There’s goofy noise rock (“Scooter + Jinx”), self-conscious hipster praise for lite-FM’s Karen Carpenter (“Tunic (Song for Karen)”) and a song about UFOs (“Disappearer”).

MILDRED PIERCE

I knew this album was important when I had it playing in my fathers car ten years ago. Mildred Pierce came on, and I was grooving with the rythm until the song suddenly explodes. They weren't 3 seconds into this explosion when my father ejected it from the tape deck and threw it out the window onto the highway. But you have to get everything this band has ever done to truly understand the music in my opinion. It isn't just noise and distortion - its a movement for rebellion.

THE BEST SONIC YOUTH ALBUM EVER!

If youve got Daydream Nation you NEED Goo! If youve got Sister, you NEED Goo. If you dont already have Goo, you NEED Goo! This is Sonic Youth at their best in every way possible. My favorite SY album by far.

A Heck of an Albulm

Following the Sonic Youth's masterpieces DAYDREAM NATION and SISTER, Sonic Youth had their expectations set. The opening song DIRTY BOOTS is one of the best tracks on the albulm. There are other highlights including, KOOL THING and MY FRIEND GOO which are great rock and roll music with great opening riffs. All and all, this albulm has its experimental tracks, along with a few mainstream attempts. This Sonic Youth albulm is not a masterpiece, nor is it Sonic Youth going outside of the box...it's just a damn fine rock albulm.
