iTunes Review

As far as morbid fascination goes, Chicago's Alkaline Trio doesn't mess around. Yes, the trio enjoys mincing words. It even interjects sarcastic, humorous phrasing into twisted scenarios like the darkest of comedy, but Good Mourning is no joke. The album juxtaposes the morbid side of relationships within the band's catchy musical framework. This bodes well for the pop-punk crew, though fans of the band's earlier work may dismiss the poppier direction here . They're missing out. Just try to keep the hooks of the first track "This Could Be Love" from sticking; the song is infectious and almost jubilant-despite lyrics depicting a literal bloodletting at the hand of a wronged lover. "We've Had Enough" is equally engaging, railing against pop while simultaneously stewing in it. Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano take turns singing, with Andriano's more sunny sentiments playing yin to the yang of Skiba's more cynical ways.

Your coffin or mine?

great album with catchy and petic lyrics. one oof the more original punk albums compared to others. best songs would have to be "we've had enough", "one hundred stories", "continental, "all on black", "fatally yours", and "every thug needs a lady". one of alkaline trio's best.

I've got some bad ideas, involving the Trio and me

Alkaline Trio were heavily influenced by early (horror) punk bands such as The Misfits and The Damned. This is the album where they showed that they could surpass them. Infectiously catchy songs about murder and revenge, years before MCR. Black suits and red ties, years before Green Day. They've managed to garner underground success and stay away from the mainstream, staying true to their punk roots. This is a punk album definitely worth having.

Were you planning on staying forever?

Good Mourning is an incredible album. For new listeners, I would suggest purchasing this and "Maybe I'll Catch Fire." Every song on the cd is great and the lyrics are really poetic and beautiful. It definatly shows the band's progression.
