Luv it!

He's been writing hit songs for others It's about time he writes some for himself. Tracks 4 and 6 are my favorites.

An Actual Writer

I've known about Travis Howard for a few years. Mostly from reading liner notes (he's written many hits for country star Miranda Lambert) and catching the occasional television or movie performance (he's also an actor). Always his songs from someone else's voice or some screenwriter's words coming from his mouth. But I never got the chance to hear what he had to say for himself - from himself. And I gotta say....hells yes.

One of my favs is "I Died" - a dark analogy of lost love as the scene of a brutal murder. Also "Lean Into Me", a duet with Aimee Allen, another brilliant artist. The agonizing, if futile attempt to reach into the life of a lover or friend who just can't bring themselves to share their pain.

"Get Your Heart Dirty" reminds me of something Keith Urban SHOULD HAVE recorded on his last album. Super fun, alternate-tempo jam about letting go of your reservations when you finally meet an exciting new potential 'soulie'.

Then of course there's "Goodbye Hollywood". Obviously Travis has left his longtime hometown recently to work from Nashville. And this song conjures up memories and emotions we've all had when faced with leaving somewhere to start a new chapter. Whether it's high school, a hometown, an old apartment or a favorite job, we've all had to let go of something when we weren't quite ready.

Plus he looks like he'd be a cool hang. Really love to see the live show.
Great album!! Can't wait til the next one.

Goodbye Hollywood

Clearly Travis Howard was in the process of moving on before, during or after the writing of this album. His process has resulted in an album full of great catchy beautiful country songs filled with nostalgic imagery and the contemplative thoughts of someone moving on to the next phase of their life. Good songwriters write catchy tunes. Excellent musicians and writers share experiences we can relate to. If you've been broken-hearted, afraid of the future, filled with longing for someone who has moved on without you, or wandered about a town you used to live, put this CD in your car and go for a long drive with your dog, stop and have a beer (or three) and let your mind wander. Then come home and share it with your friends.
