Album Review

There's nothing sadder than seeing a talented artist come up with a real bummer, but that's just what this record is. Joe Walsh heads to Memphis to record but comes up way short of anything rockish. Perhaps this is one of those contractual obligation albums you hear so much about. In any event, the back picture of Walsh blowing a big bubble kind of says it all.

Customer Reviews

Misunderstood album

Reading the main review for this, I feel the reviewer forgot who Joe Walsh is, or at least was, at the time he made "Got Any Gum?"...a goofball with a guitar and a load of talent. And that is what to expect from this album, goofy talent. If you are looking for deep meaning and something to enlighten you...keep looking. If you are looking for something light, funny, silly, goofy, melodic, breezy, etc., then this could be the album for you. Also, it should be noted, that while most albums from 1987 were heavy on synth, this is not. It has the warm feel of four guys in a garage, with their old beat up amps, on a Saturday afternoon, choosing to belt out a few tunes and drink a few beers instead of mowing the lawn. (Note: the release date shown is 2005. That is the re-release date. The album was orginally released in 1987.)

This album is "fun"

The title of one of my favorite songs in this album says it all, it's "fun". Joe Walsh was (and still is now) an amazing guitarist and was one of the goofiest (I have the Eagles Farewell Tour on dvd, the only concert i've laughed while watching thanks to Joe). Overall the tunes on this album are fine, they're not hits, but they are all on the same level. Its just a fun a cool album to listen to.

Great Guitar/Rock Collection

Joe Walsh is one of the most underrated (and he's not rated that low, in any case) solo artists out there. Joe probably yawns at "ratings" anyway. Obviously, the Eagles saw what he has. For those who like guitar rock, he's got "the sound". His band is tight, keyboards and bass so-o fine. This collection has several good songs, including "In My Car", "Malibu", and "No Peace in the Jungle." Music with rock-and-roll soul. A++++

From his early hits with the James Gang through to his tenure with the Eagles — as well as a successful solo career — Joe Walsh remained one of the most colorful characters in rock & roll, lending his distinctively reedy vocals, off-the-wall lyrics, and expansive guitar leads to a series of AOR staples including "Funk #49," "Rocky Mountain Way," and "Life's Been Good."
