Before Jeff Buckley died in 1997 he granted us the magical, aptly titled Grace, a breathtaking recording that has grown in stature steadily since its release. While we rue never getting to see Jeff fulfill his towering potential, we know from listening to Grace that he had the voice of an angel, and could play guitar like Jimmy Page. His artistic vision was so intricate and wondrously realized that it has taken nearly a decade to fully appreciate its glory. Key tracks: "Hallelujah," "The Last Goodbye," "Lover, You Should Have Come Over," and "Grace."

Track By Track Review

This is probably one of my favorite albums of all time and I felt obligated to write a review on it. 1. Mojo Pin (4.5/5) A little forgettable, but still it shows Jeff's incredible voice all the way through the song. Foreshadows how amazing the rest of the album is. 2. Grace (4.5/5) Very good also, but again it is overshadowed by some of the more amzing songs later in the album. 3. Last Goodbye (5/5) Incredible song, just a perfect powerful and sad breakup song. One of the better songs on the album 4. Lilac Wine (4/5) Somewhat boring, but his vocals here are again incredible 5. So Real (5/5) Just amazing vocal performance, and such an easy song to listen to. 6. Hallelujah (5/5) Probably the song everyone's heard of by Jeff, and there's good reason for that. Jeff takes on this classic folk song, and sings it so well, it gives most people chills. 7. Lover You Should've Come Over (5/5) In my opinion, this is far and away the best song on the album. The emotion that Jeff pours into this song, plus the absolutely insane vocal range he shows, makes this songs IMO one of the best songs of all time. 8. Corpus Christi Carol (4/5) This song is very mellow, slow, and "choir" live, but it still profiles Jeff's voice greatly. 9. Eternal Life (5/5) By far the most hard rocking song on the album, but Jeff sounds good singing this style of music. With this song he is able to rock hard, and still use his great voice. Great contrast from the rest of the album. 10. Dream Brother (4/5) Good, but it doesn't stand out as much as some of the others. BEST SONG: Lover You Should've Come Over (Track 7) WEAKEST SONG: Dream Brother (Track 10), but all of the songs are really really good. There are no filler tracks on this album. DOWNLOAD: Hallelujah (Track 6)

It's Pretty Good, But...

I thought that it was really good. BUT What is up with reviewers nowadays? First off, T h i s I s A n A l b u m R e v i e w ! Not a review of Hallelujah! Secondly, Hallelujah, a non-rap song, hits number one and you get all of the rap/hip hop people saying this song is horrible! Here's what I think that they are thinking : It doesn't talk about sex, drugs, hot girls or getting high so it must be horrible! And I noticed something, all of the "Good Ratings" have 0 of 3 found helpful because apparently three people have nothing better to do than push "thumbs down" to actual reviews or reviews that found this album likeable.

One of the all time best albums ever

I remember when "Last Goodbye" hit MTV. I was instantly smitten. So I ran out and bought the album that very day. A couple of months later I was lucky enough to get to see him in concert and it was one of the most beautiful, moving experiences in my life. We suffered such a huge loss when he died. His fans, friends, family, the music world. This album is truly one of the greatest albums ever produced. It might take you a time or two to really get into it, but once you do... it's got it's hooks in you and you'll find yourself quoting it, finding random bits and pieces of it floating around in hundreds of songs that have come since then, humming it unconsciously... It should be required listening for people who have a brain, and people who have a love of unabashed beauty.
