Album Review

With each successive album, Grits continue to improve their production, arranging, and rhyming skills; Grammatical Revolution is their most accomplished recording yet, and does the most effective job of getting the duo's spiritual message across.

Grammatical, Yes

Don't let the label "Christian" fool you: Grammatical Revolution is a solid album, and a good example of East Coast hip-hop. With its heavy synth beats and polyphonic lyricists, Grammatical Revolution is an album which sounds beautiful. Coffee and Bonafide switch out as lead vocals and backup on different tracks, and both perform each role comfortably. The strongest tracks on this album are "IMA Showem," "Time Is Passing," and "The End." "Christian" bands have a notorious penchant for sacrificing lyrical quality to insist on a moral, and Grammatical Revolution unfortunately suffers this same plight. Fortunately, only a few tracks fall prey to the authors' urge to preach instead of express. In short, if you like East Coast hip-hop stylistics and are bored, this album is certainly worth your time. If you're searching for Christian rap, you'll want to hear this. The fact that I'm writing this review ten years after the album was released is a sign how good I think it is.
