Customer Reviews
For fans of XTC, ELO, McCartney...and '70's disco???
Steve Eggers and crew made another great album in 2007 with 'Gran Jukle's Field.' Starts off strong with 'Insanity' and takes a wild turn into honest-to-goodness disco territory with 'Don't Be A Fool'...seems odd but it works because all the songs showcase great melodic hooks that keep you coming back for more. Good thing this album is available digitally...otherwise you'd start a fire wearing grooves into your turntable or CD player, it's that good.
Wonderful album!
Every track on here is good/significant in some way, IMO. My favorites from it are Insanity, I Am Lost, and Virginia. Love the Nines! I hope they have another album in the works.
Schizophrenic
So the good: Virginia is delightful--would that the whole album had this sound. Dance Just For Me is catchy, if creepy (lyrically). But who are these guys? A third of the songs are disco, another third channel the Beatles or maybe the Kinks, a few are bluegrass-country, but ultimately it's just a weird mix. No consistent sound, no way to get into a groove, some of the tracks are downright jarring (and annoying). Disco, my God. As mentioned, Virginia is a well-crafted pop tune, most of the rest is forgettable. I wanted to like it a lot more than I ultimately did.
