Customer Reviews

Excellent.

I found out about this album through a friend, and frankly, it's awesome. Matt Kjeldsen, Brian Watkins and Mac McNabb (guitarist and producer for Nakia of 'The Voice' fame) make quite the trio. This album is a great example of songs that are simple, stripped down, and yet still interesting. From the moment the alb um starts off with "Hazy World", you're bobbing your head along to it. Next, the choppy rhythms of "Why I Can't Fly" are nice follow up. The little touches of keyboards and guitar leads create several layers on each song, but unlike so many bands trying to gain recognition, they don't have anything to prove. Indeed - these guys have been around the block a couple of times, and it seems like they just decided to make a catchy, yet artistic album with a fresh sound. The result is very pleasing. Some of the lyrics can get repetitive at times ("Fearless" to name one), but this is salvaged by the fact that you'll find yourself singing along with Kjeldsen's soaring, crisp vocals. It's nice to hear someone sing in an indie-pop band these days and not whine constantly. Watkin's drums are very minimal - perhaps the weak link on the album. But as I said before, it's hard to fault the group for keeping things straightforward and driving. And the layers of instruments provide such a rich texture that its hard to imagine what a spastic drummer would even do to improve. Ultimately, the album is a refreshing experience - an artistic take on indie/pop music from some musicians who clearly know what they're doing.
