Gravity's Our Enemy

If you like progressive bluegrass or newgrass, you will LOVE this album. I probably wouldn't recommend this album to someone who likes their bluegrass too 'traditional'. But if you want to be blown away with inventive song writing, hooks, humor, jaw dropping instrumentation, and attention to detail, this is the album for you. This album has raised the bar on progressive bluegrass. I would compare the songwriting spirit on this album to perhaps Frank Zappa or King Crimson in terms of it's progressive style, yet much more accessible for the average listener. Cadillac Sky have a way of sneaking in things you may not even notice at first, but adds to the overall vibe of the songs, like a hammond organ, vocal drones, and other subtle yet effective embellishments. I have listened to this album 50-60 times and am still hearing new details in the songs. Every song on this album has at least a moment of magic in it. From Gypsy Jazz to Classical to Blues Rock to Fusion, this album has it all. Cadillac Sky is my new favorite band and I can only pray that their next album rivals this one in terms of songwriting, inventiveness, and pure creativity. 5 solid stars.

The Evolution Begins

Bluegrass isn't normally my cup of tea, but these guys have shown me the light.

After a more traditional, but great, first run with "Blind Man Walking", you can definitely see the evolution toward someone more special with this one. Moving slightly into more original areas than the pure bluegrass world. That's a great thing. Certainly not a "more of the same" production. You can tell that they want to break out here. The next effort "Letters in the Deep" really shows where they are heading, and it's pure greatness. I only wish I had discovered them years ago so I couls watch the evolution in real time. Original finds like these guys don't come around nearly often enough. Bluegrass people may have known about them for a while. It's new to me, and I love it.

Terrific follow-up effort

If you like bluegrass and you have a pulse, you will enjoy this record. Cadillac Sky is brilliant, and I can't wait to listen to many future albums from this band.
