A Sad Disapointment
What an unfortunate occurance this is. After much criticism, Grease: You're the One That I want was mildly entertaining and the to young talents who were cast in the lead roles are suprisingly talented, if unconventional. Unfortunately the horrifiically bland production of Grease (which has been done a million times over...and better than this production everytime) has produced and equally bland cast recording. While most of the cast is very talented, that simply does not shine through on the recording, and especially not live, in this squeaky clean geriactric run of one of America's most beloved musical. Mind you I am not of the anti-Grease camp. I love Grease and appreciate it for the fun loving peoice of Rock N Roll nostalgia and parody that it is. This recent incarnation just falls terribly flat. In an era were Pop and Rock seems to dominate Broadway, this revival of the original Pop Rock Musical has never sounded more "musical theater". This may as well be a West Village cabaret act recording of Grease. If you want a great cast recording of this show, but with the music from the film, check out the London Cast Recording featuring Craig MacLachlan and Debbie Gibson. That was david Ian's original production of the show, and the version he should have brought to NYC. It captures the fun and energy this recording could never claim to. Better yet, try the original cast...even with minimal orchestration it manages to rock harder than this production. Grease 2007...Bland is the Word.
FINALLY!
I'm so excited that this album is finally here! It feels like I've had to wait forever in between watching the show on TV and getting to purchase the album. I've loved the music of Grease since I was a small child, and this album manages to keep the traditional flavor of Grease while also adding some amazing new talent! I love Max and Laura - they're perfect and the rest of the cast simply blew me away when I saw the show live!
BLEW ME AWAY!
I had watched "Grease Your The One That I Want" and I voted for Max. And now I get to here his wonderful voice. I also like Laura. In addition to what to some the reviewers are saying, It is good to know that there are SOME people who also enjoy the timeless broadway and movie "Grease" The CD and all of its SONGS BLEW ME AWAY! P.S. Can iTunes PLEASE make it where you can buy the WHOLE album not just song-by-song. THE BEE 3
