Album Review

Picking up where the first volume left off, Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 contains Linda Ronstadt's biggest hits from the late '70s, including such songs as "It's So Easy," "Hurt So Bad," "Blue Bayou," "Back in the U.S.A.," "Poor Poor Pitiful Me," "Ooh Baby Baby," "How Do I Make You," and "Tumbling Dice." Since Ronstadt's late-'70s albums tended to be a little spotty, this is a very useful summation of their highlights.

The Consummate Artist

by Dompy

Linda Ronstadt has successfully covered just about every musical territory....except Rap: American Standards, Big Band, Country, Folk, Rock, Pop, Mexican, New Wave, Afro-Cuban, Soul, Childrens, Opera. No other artist has so promiscuously tread and consequently conquered so many facets of contemporary music to such dazzling results. God bless her. She leaves us a most impressive musical legacy.

Through the arrangements and her voice, she injects enough Pop to entice the general audience to listen and branch out. While not departing her California soft rock and country roots, this compilation continues her trek toward singing everything including punk or early new wave. She even tackles the often attempted but never duplicated Stones' classic Tumbling Dice, and pulls off perhaps the finest version next to the original. What can't she sing?
