Album Review

Paul Revere and the Raiders scored seven chart hits between the fall of 1965 and the winter of 1967, and all of them — "Steppin' Out," "Just Like Me," "Kicks," "Hungry," "The Great Airplane Strike," "Good Thing," and "Ups and Downs" — were included among the 11 tracks on the group's first hits collection. Also included were "Louie, Louie," the Raiders' first Columbia single, and its follow-up, "Louie, Go Home," a B-side instrumental, plus the newly penned "Legend of Paul Revere," which told the band's story. Thus, the album traced the band from its beginnings as a Northwest club band to its reign as an L.A. pop/rock success. There would be more hits, but this brief compilation (it originally ran under 30 minutes) contained the essence of the Raiders' most successful period and indeed marked the end of the band's lineup, as the rhythm section split to form another group, leaving Revere and lead singer Mark Lindsay to recruit a new edition of the Raiders. [The 2000 CD reissue on Columbia/Legacy adds four bonus tracks: "Him or Me — What's It Gonna Be?" (their biggest post-1966 hit of the 1960s), "I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone" (which predated the Monkees' version), "Action," and "Peace of Mind."]

Paul Revere & The Raiders

My very first music concert was at a Paul Revere & The Raiders concert. It was in Des Moines, Iowa and the mid 60's. It was at the War Memorial Coliseum(?) in downtown. Loved every minute of it. I loved the band. My style of music. We needed more bands with the same crisp and fun music. I loved the outfits. Great memories of the music and the days enjoying it.

Paul Revere & The Raiders

Paul Revere and The Raiders with Mark Lindsay was my first concert as a pre-teen in the 60's. This album represents all the fun and happiness that was RIGHT with the world at that time! I just purchased this album for great memories and was not disappointed. Close your eyes and go back to the time of a handsome lead singer with a ponytail that made your parents CRAZY, tight white tights, energy beyond compare, and all the time in the world to enjoy them - sort of a pre-summer of love! Thanks iTunes!!!!!!

Paul Revere and The Raiders/Greatest Hits

"Just Like Me". Probably the greatest rock song of all times! This is one fantastic album, featuring the best of this legendary rock group. I have seen them in Syracuse, New York, and Epcot Center at Disney World. Even after all these years, this rock band still sounds the same, and rocks just as hard as ever.TWO THUMBS UP for these amazing guys!!!!! And if you want a great album, then this is the one for you. By far, this is my favorite rock group...and I am 64 years old. Once you hear these songs, they'll be your favorite to. Although Mark Lindsey is no longer with them, this group still has that rockin, sound that we love. WAY TO GO GUYS!!! ROCK ON!!!!!

One of the most popular and entertaining groups of the 1960s, Paul Revere & the Raiders enjoyed seven years of serious chart action, and during their three biggest years (1966-1969), sold records in numbers second only to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. And their hits "Steppin' Out," "Just Like Me," "Hungry," "Him or Me-What's It Gonna Be," and "Kicks," in particular, are now seen by compilers as bold, unpretentious pieces of '60s rock & roll with a defiant, punk edge.
