Album Review

Despite being one of the best-selling rappers of all time, none of MC Hammer's albums were very consistent — the singles stood out like a sore thumb among the filler on each record, which is why Greatest Hits is such a good bargain. Greatest Hits compiles 12 of Hammer's biggest hits for Capitol Records, including "U Can't Touch This," "Pump It Up," "Turn This Mutha Out," "They Put Me in the Mix," "Have You Seen Her," "Pray," "Here Comes the Hammer," "2 Legit 2 Quit," "Do Not Pass Me By," and "Addams Groove." It's not only an excellent introduction to MC Hammer, it's the best album in his entire catalog.

HAMMER TIME!!!

hammer is the man

amazing

I stated everything I wanted to say for this in my last review, except that my favorite is Too Legit to Quit.

God bless Too Legit 2 Quit!

MC Hammer gets ribbed for his money problems, but today at the San Francisco Chronicle Web site I read that the reason he had to file for bankruptcy in the mid-1990s was his outsized generosity: the dude was helping everyone, including half of Oakland. So to keep the good karma flowing I came to the iTunes Store to buy a MC Hammer album and send some royalties his way. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mr. Hammer!

Biography

Born: March 30, 1962 in Oakland, CA

Genre: Hip Hop/Rap

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Armed with a flamboyant wardrobe (particularly his trademark baggy parachute pants) and a raft of sampled hooks lifted straight from their sources, Hammer's talents as a dancer and showman far exceeded his technique as an MC. Still, he had an ear for catchy source material, and that helped his second album, Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, become the best-selling rap album...
