Greneberg is a three-man supergroup that brings together Soul Assassins representative/legendary producer the Alchemist, Stones Throw favorite Oh No, and Marciano (previously known as Roc Marciano) from The UN. Greneberg is an extension of Gangrene, the Al & Oh unit that dropped the impressive Gutter Water in 2011. All three members handle duties on the boards and in the booth, serving up cleverly grimy wordplay over exceptional beats, built on punch-you-in-the-face drums and an avalanche of obscure samples. Short and sweet with just seven tracks, there's not a wack moment here. Everybody gets a chance to shine, and they take full advantage of it on every joint. From the earthy funk of "Momma Told Me" to the bluesy guitars and chimes of "Papercuts" and the horn-laced "Sewer Gravy," this is high-quality hip-hop, plain and simple. Unconcerned with radio singles, R&B hooks, or big-name features, they deliver the goods. Here's hoping there's more on deck.
