Grey Britain is the U.K. hardcore punk quintet’s response to current-day greed and racism, delivered with mouth-frothing ferocity. It’s true that the unlikely use of strings on “Vulture (Act I)” and “Misery” adds some embroidery to the pervasive sturm und drang, but really, Grey Britain can best be seen as a conceptual successor to the Clash’s London Calling and similarly politically minded punk discs of the ‘80s. Singer Frank Carter is unrelenting in his indictment of his nation’s ills, bellowing his way through “Leeches,” “Death Voices,” “Queensberry Rules” and “Crucif**ks” with righteous rage. The tongue-lashing he gives St. Peter during “The Great Forgiver” is a highpoint. The shout-along choruses to “London Is the Reason” and “I Dread the Night” invite the alienated everywhere to join in the struggle. Under the production guidance of GGGarth Richardson, the tracks seethe, slash and even swing, especially on the maniacal boogie tune “Graves.” Brutal and sporadically brilliant, Grey Britain burns white-hot from first cut to last.

Gallows returns better than before

A harder and darker edged approach for Gallows. Every song on this album is good, no fillers. Social commentary combined with abrasive vocals and brutal chords. This is hardcore punk at it's best. I don't understand the metalcore reference the itunes reviewer is suggesting, (for metalcore check out trustkill records) but if you like punk rock (not pop-punk) and hard music pick up this album now.

The UK does it again!

Since 1965 or maybe even earlier the UK have a way of breeding bands that have been the scariest bands or heaviest things known to man. It happens about once every five years. Pink Floyd with the help of Syd Barret developed the full fledged white noise sound, years before Sonic Youth btw, in about 1965, with their very rare and very cool 60 Hour, it think, Freak Out Fest, it was the heaviest thing at the time. Then in 1970 hear comes Black Sabbath, a few years after that, the Sex Pistols, then MotorHead and Iron Maiden, after them, Death, a few years later, Cradle of Filth would take the crown as scariest thing from England only to have it stripped by just one song from Aphex Twin. Tin Benson would put a whole new twist on what completely and creepy and scary should sound like, but now, England has a new hardcore group to be proud of as they should be. I give you, the Gallows!!!!! Probably the best live band on the planet right now. They are ungodly heavy, punk in its most purest form. Sid Vicious would be proud!!!!

Grey Britain

From one listen through this is hands down the best hardcore cd at least all year and definitely more. The texture in each track in just dark and totally contributes to its simply moving sound. The ending song is my personal favorite the picture the lyrics paint is priceless and the ending is amazing. This is one album not to be missed at all.
