Album Review
Most who recognize Josh One's name will likely be familiar with his club hit "Contemplation," which has made significant waves in Europe and actually hit number one on the German club chart. Grey Skies is a six-track EP that finds him exploring funkier territory while continuing in the cool and jazzy vein that has brought him success in the past. Featuring four new songs and two instrumental versions, Grey Skies is a showcase both for the fine title track and for his latest single release, the muscular and soulful "After Hours," which features Mikah 9 of Freestyle Fellowship. There are no house beats here, just lots of club-friendly beats and breaks, jazzy horns, and the occasional dubwise flourish as well. All of it hangs together beautifully.
