iTunes Review

Lia Ices is a Brooklyn-based pianist, singer-songwriter who understands the importance of space. Her music is symphonic and yet austere. Each part weaves with another in a way that is lush but never overpowering. At the center are Ices’ watery vocals that splash into the murk with great enthusiasm. “After Is Always Before” trips through the dark with a magnificence worthy of Low and Dawn Landes. “Grown Unknown” throws a few handclaps into the mix for refined exuberance. “Bag of Wind” is a piano drama played out in real time, while “Ice Wine” throws a stalking string section into the fire. There’s a Parisian pop vibe lurking underneath the chamber music. The sound is nearly monochromatic — or sepia-toned — except there are flourishes of unexpected color that catch the songs unaware. Just as Francoise Hardy, Marianne Faithfull and Tori Amos have sparked conversation with their adventurous sonic textures, so goes Ices, a modern-day sitting-room expert. She lives between decades, if not centuries.

Lia is Cool....

This is a very cool album....in every sense of the word. The chord prgressions she uses along with the interesting beats make for a unique yet enchanting sound. It is also cool in that I think it is impossible to be mad when listening to her lullaby-sounding music. Each song flows very easily--but there isn't much diversity in the style of the album. However, I think Lia is a voice to be reckoned with!

such a beautiful voice!

All that needs to be said based off of listening to this artist sing, is that her songs are worthy of the millions of dollars painters get for their artwork. Each song is original and displays beautiful acoustics and vocals. Very different, but very VERY excellent singer. If she ever reads these I hope she knows that she is greatly talented and deserves to get far more publicity than singers that use auto-tuning to "enhance/create" their voices.

Princess Lia

Sounds like Bat For Lashes to me.

Biography

Genre: Singer/Songwriter

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Brooklyn, NY-based pianist, singer, and songwriter Lia Ices was born and raised in Connecticut, where she began playing piano at the age of five, although she didn't discover her penchant for songwriting until years later while studying at N.Y.U.'s famed Tisch School of the Arts' Experimental Theater Wing. Sounding a bit like Tori Amos in a Cat Power world, Ices quickly captured attention in the area, eventually releasing the eight-song album Necima in 2008 with Nicolas Vernhes' Rare Book Room Records....
