Masterful French Organist
Taught by his father, Guilmant shows the classic late 19th century style of organ master style, with classic bombarde and soft vocal reeds. I just find more interest int he man the the music. The Sonata in F Major (No.7) is quite the exception. The dark and somber style of this period within the French organ genre has few composers of note. Guilmant is more the artist than composer, and yet this collection is superbly selected and the "Pieces dans different styles.." is delightful. The engineering itself is excellent.
Guilmant's claim to fame, is that he was Charles Dupre's teacher & Guilmant was invited to play the St.Louis Exposition organ (now the John Wanamaker Organ housed in the Philadelphia store) in a series of recitals that exceeded 40. While not the most exciting composer, this collection is worth the price of admission.
